PlainsCapital Helps Feed Lubbock-Area Families During Holidays

LUBBOCK, TX (Dec. 3, 2019) – PlainsCapital Bank’s Lubbock branches recently participated in the 37th annual U Can Share Food Drive benefitting the South Plains Food Bank (SPFB).
PlainsCapital Bank’s employees and customers contributed over 1,200 pounds of food to help feed thousands of people across the South Plains. Employees also volunteered their time to help package SPFB holiday food boxes.
“Giving back to the communities where we live and work is important to us, and our long-term partnership with the South Plains Food Bank is a great example of that,” said PlainsCapital Bank Lubbock Market President Barry Ballinger. “The food bank is a significant resource for many people in our region, and we’re happy to be part of this year’s drive.”
The U Can Share Food Drive is an annual community-wide effort initiated as a service project by KCBD News Channel 11. The drive took place from Dec. 2 to Dec. 7 with the goal of providing 750,000 meals. As of Dec. 9, Lubbock-area schools, churches, businesses, and community members had provided 804,000 meals, according to David Weaver, CEO of the SPFB.
PlainsCapital’s holiday contribution follows their $10,000 donation in May 2019, which helped SPFB tackle summertime demand to aid kids who weren’t able to take advantage of free or reduced price meals available to them during the school year.
Over the past 30 years, PlainsCapital branches in Lubbock have provided more than 1 million meals for local families through their support and nearly $300,000 in donations.
The Bank’s support dates back to SPFB’s inception, when the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization approached PlainsCapital for a loan to fund an apple orchard. Since then, PlainsCapital Bank has continued to be a cornerstone partner for the organization and has helped SPFB grow into the leading domestic hunger relief organization in the South Plains.
