PlainsCapital Bank Celebrates Weatherford College Turning 150
WEATHERFORD, TX (Oct. 15, 2019) – In celebration of Weatherford College’s 150th anniversary, the PlainsCapital Bank Weatherford branch recently established a new scholarship with the Weatherford College Foundation to provide financial aid for deserving students with the greatest need.
“This is such a special year to recognize the positive impact Weatherford College has had on individuals, families and the community,” said PlainsCapital Bank Weatherford Executive Vice President and Weatherford College Foundation President Bob Glenn. “Some of the students I’ve seen are even mothers who come back to school and their experience can be financially and emotionally difficult. Our contribution will change their lives and other student’s lives for the better.”
Glenn and PlainsCapital Bank Branch President Pat Hamilton wanted to make a gift that would last forever – one that would ensure future students in need could experience the benefits of a Weatherford College education. They chose to add the PlainsCapital Bank scholarship to the foundation endowed scholarship pool, which combines scholarships from other donors and uses the interest to fund annual student scholarships.
“Pat and I feel strongly about supporting education,” said Glenn. “If there’s a chance for us to support an educational opportunity, we will more than likely be there to participate. It’s our way to give back as Weatherford College alums and members of the community.”
Glenn and Hamilton’s close ties and commitment to the college have continued for decades. They have both served on multiple boards for almost 30 years with Glenn serving on the Weatherford College Foundation Board of Directors for 12 years and as president since 2014.
Among their many sponsorships was a $50,000 gift for the New Academic Building construction in 2013, where a plaque designates the geology lab as the PlainsCapital Bank Geology Laboratory. PlainsCapital Bank also underwrites all costs as the sole sponsor of the Annual Coyote Area Math Championship, with February 2020 marking the 18th occurrence.
